Did it matter when Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) dropped the Y for their ready-to-wear collection and rebranded it to Laurent Paris? Or that we’re not quite sure which name P. Diddy/Puff Daddy/ Sean Combs /Pop diddy pop?? A name is very much a part of first impressions and has the power to derail new and potential shoppers from their daily routine to stop and look at your creation. If we’re being honest with ourselves, we’ve changed our stance on a product because a specific brand deemed it worthy of fashion praise (sheepishly raises hand as double-denim convert). But from the designer’s point of view, it can help lead you into the direction you’ve always envisioned for your growth process. As scary as it may seem, a name change could do your brand some good. Honey from the Moon, formerly known as Zeebaan Designs, took the plunge in 2015 and TDS talks to co-founder Yonathan to find out about their experience so far:
